NEWS | Catandunganon is 2024 SciMath Battle Champion

Boasting a consistent lead throughout the competition, Deronn Amadeus Panti from Virac Pilot Elementary School triumphed over 80 Grade 5 and Grade 6 elementary students to win the championship in the 2024 Sci-Math Battle held this Friday, December 13, 2024 at the campus gymnasium.

Held to promote interest in STEM and in the National Competitive Examination, this year’s Sci-Math Battle saw a tie for 2nd place, with three rounds of clincher questions eventually hailing Liam Andre Delos Santos from Goa Central School and Titus Gabriel Ramos from Naga Central School II as the 2nd and 3rd places respectively.

Panti’s coach, Jayson Vargas attributed his student’s success to the month-long review and that fact that he is also the school’s representative in another competition that was held in Daet, Camarines Norte the next day.

“Siya rin ang contestant namin sa Eagle Quiz, so parang saamin related siya sa sci-math,” Vargas mentioned.

According to Vargas, Panti is targetting an admission to Pisay-Main Campus, which served as one of their motivations for joining the Sci-Math Battle.

This year’s Sci-Math Battle was composed of an written-type exam serving as the elimination round, and from these the top 30 students proceeded to a show-me-board type final round.

The Sci-Math Battle was originally slated to happen on October, but was moved to December after the series of weather disturbances that hit the Bicol region.
