Students of Philippine Science High School–Bicol Region Campus (PSHS–BRC) commenced the opening ceremony for the Science Camp 2024, with the theme “Innovate the Future Today!”, this December 15, 2024, at the campus gymnasium.
Event organizer and Alliance of Chemistry Enthusiasts (ACEs) Vice-President Kyle Sebastian Medrano explained in an interview that the event’s theme was chosen to make scholars “experience what it’s like to innovate science in their respective fields.”
Medrano also shared how this can be achieved by making scholars engage in problem-solving activities regarding their group’s designated environmental issues.
This year’s science camp grouped scholars into 16 various settings called ‘districts’.
District 14 Aeronexus leader Justine Rances expressed how aside from winning, it is important for scholars to “internalize the impact of science” in their daily lives through these kinds of events.
The event was preluded with an opening parade led by student-group districts, starting from the campus administrative building.
“Passion drives creativity,” said event emcees Kyna Arizapa and Rem Prudente as they officially initiate the opening program.
Assistant Curriculum and Instructions Division (CID) Chief Sevedeo Malate graced the program with his opening remarks, stating that “this is the day to ignite our curiosity.”
District tributes were then called to the stage for the pinning ceremony, the recital of the Camper’s Pledge, and the introduction of student-made banners.
“Events like this could help them foster the essence of innovation” said Jovaline Camacho, the adviser of the ACEs.
